Macros and Motivation

May was such an insane month! Every weekend I was away for birthday celebrations, my sister’s college graduation and a fun mini vacation with my boyfriend and friends. It was extremely hard to not indulge in junk(ish) type food, and definitely on more than one occasion I ate whatever I wanted whenever. It was also extremely easy to loose my motivation. I had actually hit a plateau in my workouts in the beginning of May and it went all down hill from there, and let me tell you, it is certainly hard to get the motivation back.

So, I signed up for a 4 week summer challenge where I am following a nutritional guideline and exercises. I have weekly check ins and all so no slacking off for me. My marathon training also officially starts a day after my challenge begins. What a way to get back into everything right?

Since I was advised to use My Fitness Pal to keep track of my food (even though my macros and meals were given to me) I decided to try it out a week before hand with the meals I prep for myself just for a feel of what I was supposed to do and how I was actually eating. I actually couldn’t believe how easy it was for me to hit my fats and carbs and how hard it was for me to hit my total protein for the day. Total wake up call. I thought I was hitting my protein easily and low and behold I was not.

This also got me thinking about how I have been more tired than normal lately and I feel like my memory is not as sharp (so sad for being 26 years old).  I also have been suffering from minor injuries when running. I am only doing about 2-3 miles a few times a week so a few minor aches and pains are typical but not injuries. I actually had one of my co-workers correct my sacral torsion and leg length discrepancy on multiple occasions because every time I ran my SI joint would move out of its proper position. Yes, fun stuff.

I am starting to get super excited for my challenge and nervous for my marathon training but I love challenging myself, and I am hoping it gets me back into my normal routine of going to the gym and eating healthier. I also spent a good hour looking up different recipes and meal prep ideas for the rest of this week since I do not consume enough protein. I am just really looking to get my motivation back. I was so dedicated before with clean eating and going to the gym and it felt so good! There is no better feeling then busting your butt during a workout!
